The Hong Kong Chinese Dentists Association is the first registered dentist community in Hong Kong. Founded in 1940s, members at the time include: Dr. G.C. Chau, Dr. C.N. Ling, Dr. K.H. Chan, Dr. K.M. Wu, Dr. K.H. Chan, Dr. J.S. Leung, Dr. C.P. Tsang, Dr. Y.F. Heung. However, shortly after the founding, the conferences were stopped due to the Pacific War and Second World War.
In 1946, the war had finally come to an end. Many members gradually returned to Hong Kong and the re-organization of the association was proposed. Thus the committee board was established through a democratic vote with 5 standing committee members elected.
In 1947, an office was rented out as the site for the association on the 2nd floor of 90 Wellington Street in Central. The foundation was laid with the growth of membership.
In 1960, the 14th board authority was changed to the format of Chief Supervisor System for the sake of better facilitating and handling affairs. The Council was established with fifteen council members; while the Supervision Committee was established with five supervisors. The 1-year-tenure of the boards was also changed to 2-years until the 16th Supervision Council in 1962.
Since then, affairs have continued to develop. A Site Preparation Committee was set up in order to consolidate the foundation. With the combined efforts and donations of the association, more locations were purchased; including the 8/F at Alhambra, Nathan Road in Kowloon, which is the permanent address of the association.
In 1966, the association was registered as a limited company in Hong Kong. The Committee Board was established to develop business affairs. From then on, with a complete organization, regulations, and well-functioning operation, it has become an increasingly quintessential dental organization.
The previous Chairmen were Dr. H.K. Leung, Dr. G.C. Chau, Dr. Eric Y.S. Leung, and Dr. W.F. Heung respectively.
In November 2015, Dr. Lawrence Lam, BBS, MH, SBStJ, DDM has taken over as the 24th chairman. Since then, more consultants and committee members have been added in order to facilitate better conference development.
